BYU School of Communications Public Relations students spent their summers spread out across the country to study the art of PR and have some fun.
Emily spent her summer in the BYU Washington Seminar program, in Washington, D.C., where she was a communications intern at the National Center on Sexual Exploitation. Because of limited funds in the nonprofit, Emily generated organic content for some popular web sites. She learned about traditional public relations, media lists, press releases and blogging during her internship. Emily lived only a mile walk away from the Lincoln Memorial and spent her free time touring the local museums.
Alec spent his summer at Little Empire Music in Los Angeles, California. The company manages musicians’ day-to-day activities, tours, shows, interviews and press releases. He worked closely with a digital marketer to create content for the social media profiles of artists like Kaskade, Galantis, Rufus Wainwright, Wax Motif and more. Alec reviewed analytics and assisted in the marketing plans for the release of new tracks and albums for all of these artists.
Alec worked on a few special projects including the social accounts for artists attending the Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), a festival that sells more than 400,000 tickets each year. The best part for Alec was “getting an artist pass for the festival in Vegas and spending all three days backstage with artists and big shots in the industry while listening to some of the coolest DJ sets with 300,000 other people.”
